Artifacts #
What this step produces.
Scope Baseline #
The approved scope statement, WBS and WBS dictionary taken together. It is the reference against which scope changes and progress are measured.
WBS & WBS Dictionary #
A hierarchical breakdown of all project work into deliverables and work packages, plus a dictionary describing each one. It makes scope clear and gives a base for estimating.
Schedule Baseline #
The approved version of the schedule with agreed start and finish dates. Actual progress is compared with it to spot delays early.
Milestone List #
A list of key events or points in the project, such as approvals or releases, with their planned dates. Milestones give stakeholders clear checkpoints to track.
Cost Baseline #
The approved time-phased budget for the project, without management reserves. Spending is checked against it to see if costs stay on plan.
Performance Measurement Baseline #
The combined scope, schedule and cost baselines used as one yardstick for performance. It lets earned value analysis show whether the project is ahead or behind.
Techniques #
Techniques used in this step.
Critical Path Method #
A technique that finds the longest chain of dependent tasks, which sets the shortest possible project duration. It shows which delays move the end date and where there is slack.
Rolling Wave Planning #
Planning near-term work in detail and later work at a high level, then refining it as the project moves on. It is used when far-off details are still unknown.
